MIKE CLERK
Fife based guitarist and singer-songwriter Mike Clerk cites “mending the after effects of historical over indulgence” as the main inspiration behind his new solo material.
With an alt-rock album laid out in the style of a blockbuster movie soundtrack - the forthcoming new album The Space Between My Ears is Mike’s first “cathartic attempt” since stepping away from his duties as songwriter and frontman for his previous band, The Lost Generation.
During his time with the band, Clerk took charge of management and booking duties, landing shows including support slots with The Bluetones, a close call with guitar duties for Primal Scream and slots as far afield as Manhattan.
Having realised his heart wasn’t in it anymore, Mike left the band and stepped back from performing for a while “for the sake of my own sanity”.
Now back on the scene, he has no shame in clearly displaying his influences through his sound. Writing in the moment, Mike states he “didn’t want it to sound like a typical “solo artist” record, and more like an out and out alternative rock record.”; something inspired by his huge variety of influences.
“I’m influenced by pretty much anything that doesn’t sound manufactured. Authentic rock writing like Cream, Led Zeppelin, The Black Keys. I’m also hopelessly addicted to music from the American desert scene - PJ Harvey, QOTSA, and love the story- telling greats like Tracey Chapman, Bob Dylan, and Nic Cave. I’m more a lover of songs rather than groups/artists to be honest. I’m a bit of a music salad really.”
