Christmas Is Coming

Love them or hate them, Christmas songs are an inevitable part of the festivities and celebrations that lead up to Christmas day.

Picture yourself, frantically running around the supermarket, grabbing the last few items off the empty shelves, desperately trying to keep your sanity as yet another chorus of Slade’s “Merry Xmas Everybody” drills into your ear reminding you that, alas, it’s only just beg-uuuu-uuunnnnn.

So to get you all feeling Christmassy, we’ve put together a few festive treats from the Wardlaw catalogue!

Kitty Finer & Finn Andrews “Hello Again”

Hot off the press is this new duet by Kitty Finer and Finn Andrews, described by Kitty as “An awkward phone call from LA to London”. The tongue-in-cheek song features references to everyone’s favourite topic of conversation- the weather - and an instantly memorable chorus: “What took you so long to get it so wrong? You only come along in time for Christmas”. The song, posted on Soundcloud, also features our new favourite hashtag - #christmas slow-mo duet.

Maxi Priest “I As A King”

Maxi Priest Spices up the Christmas classic “We Three Kings” with a reggae tinge! Opening with an acapella vocals, some great brass arrangements and dub reggae delay moments, Maxi’s “I As A King” is a fun, and infectious feel good Christmas song. Born is the King that gives to the world. Straight from Zion, love is the word!

Mary Jess “Silent Night”

From a rework of a classic, to a beautiful traditional interpretation. “Silent Night” was composed in 1818 by Austrian primary school teacher and church organist Franz Xaver Gruber, with lyrics by Joesph Mohr. The carol has been translated into around 140 different languages and the version by Bing Crosby remains the 3rd best selling single of all time.

Mary Jess’s version of the classic offers an angelic, multi layered performance. Where as other versions may choose to have grander orchestrations, this version retains the intimacy of the original, carried by nothing more than piano accompaniment and her vocal.

Sharon Shannon “Christmas Time Again”

To round off the selection comes an especially cheery number (evidenced by the TV performance below!) by Sharon Shannon and Wallis Bird. The track has enthusiasm about it that’s hard not to get behind, and has all the christmas themed lyrics you could ever want in one song!
