Take Me Down to St Joe’s
“Take me down to St Joe’s” is the bluesy new single from the iconic Rhythm and Blues band The Mysterious Wheels – a song specially written to raise funds for St Joseph’s Hospice in Hackney.
“Take me down to St Joe’s”, with lead vocals by ex-Pogues drummer Andrew Ranken, is a reflection of life and its near misses, brought to life with Andrew’s trademark gravelly voice.
Andrew suffers from COPD, and was inspired to write the lyrics after a Pulmonary Rehab class at Homerton Hospital, at which a nurse from St Joseph’s Hospice gave a talk about the incredible work they do for the community.
Joe Korner, pianist with the band, came up with the melody, and they decided to offer the song to the Hospice as a charity recording to help raise funds and raise awareness of the wide range of services St Josephs has to offer.
Capturing the tranquil atmosphere of the Hospice’s gardens, the song features the melodious accompaniment of an outstanding trumpet piece by special guest Dan Gale-Hayes and soulful vocals from Nikki Akinjinmi.
