ROB CASTELL
Rob Castell is a multi-instrumentalist and singer. His particular interest and specialism is in songwriting for families and children, as well as comedy songwriting.
He co-founded a cappella comedy quartet Barbershopera in 2008 which went on to win six Musical Theatre Network awards including three for Best Lyrics. Barbershopera toured the UK, played at Trafalgar Studios, Soho Theatre, in South Korea and created two full shows for BBC Radio 4. They released two albums and four music videos, one of which went viral (I Could Have Married Kate).
Since then he has written for E4 (Playing It Straight), CBeebies (Let’s Go Club) and CBBC (Officially Amazing – BAFTA nominated) as well as released his own EP Stories of Ourselves in 2011. As a musical theatre writer, he has written original compositions and been musical director for York Theatre Royal (Hound of the Baskervilles, Robin Hood) and Nuffield Southampton (Merlin), created a full length musical set in Ancient Greece (Olympia), and most recently composed a children’s cantata for the Cookham Festival (Katie Cox & The Rhythm of the River). As a rapper and producer he has created three topical music videos online, one of which (EU Rapferendum) went viral in 2016.
